Accell Group

Develop a multi-brand product platform. Two cargo-bikes for three brands within the Accell Group. Managing market developments, brand requirements, manufacturing possibilities and a ever changing compliance field.

Background

Accell group is one of the biggest bicycle manufacturers in the Netherlands. Active in the whole range of bicycles, including cargo-bikes. The cargo-bike market was growing exponentially, therefore the need (and demand) for cargo-bikes was huge, especially for multiple-brands within the group. 

Project goal

I was asked to participate in the project team and take care of the product development and the compliance, where the compliance landscape was ever-changing, new standards coming and already a different standards being announced.

The project the scope was very broad, oversee the product development, bikes and accessories, product engineering and compliance of all the parts that were being specified and engineered.

The goal was to hand-over the bike as a production model complete with the technical file as it is required by the Machine Directive 2006.

End result

The project goal was reach within two years time, which marked the first mass production FAT (factory acceptance test) run of 10 bikes of each model. All accessories were in production, which included, rain covers, box covers, cushions, a baby seat adapter and a adjustable bench that all fit on the accessories rail system that has been added to development during the project.
